Conceptual
Analysis of the film:
- This movie was developed on an abbey on Italy
in the season Inquisition on 1327. The weft is a series of murders or deaths in
the abbey. The boss in abbey was concerned the reason was in the next days in
the place in had a meeting between the pope and the order Franciscans. The
abbey arrival the friar Guillermo of Baskerville and her disciple Absolom, they
was Franciscans, and tried to find the source of deaths. Friar Guillermo was
based on the logic to find the source of the deaths and found that all
originated from the library of the abbey, which was probably the largest copies
prohibited by the church worldwide. When the papal delegation arrives for the
meeting it is also an inquisitor Bernardo Wee, which declares two monks and a
woman, heretics and carried the fire and the mystery is solved and no one can
refute the decision, but William discovers the blame the oldest of the order
poisoned the pages of a book which referred to laughter monk.
Personal
Analysis and Reflections:
The film addresses two issues, religion and the
time of the inquisition against the investigation by facts and science. The
themes of religion at that time were much closed, so the inquisitor said was
sacred word no one could contradict him, he could be blamed for complicity and
burned at the stake. The theme of chastity is treated also in the movie, as at
that time and even now bad that clerics have sex, is to know that the vow of
chastity, allowing them to replace this livid by prayers and the pursuit of
pleasure God. The contrast with the investigation in the film is that it was
not as fast as we wanted, is given the benefit of the doubt and conclusions
according to what is seen and heard and make so the culprit is reached. In my
personal opinion I must have been a very bold and controversial film at the
time, this 1986 adaptation of Umberto Eco's book, was not applauded, however,
the director Jean Jacques was advised by scholars of the middle Ages. More
filmic terms, the film is well made, the scenarios and the effects are agree to
the advances of the time.
